Blueberry Scone Cake

Recently my mum and I visited the Dulcie May kitchen for lunch.  It was somewhere we were keen to visit after cooking many recipes from their first cookbook.  It was very small but the food on offer all looked tasty - no gluten free options sadly.  We purchased a sweet item to take home for afternoon tea including the Blueberry Breakfast scone which looked divine - and different from other scones available.  After searching I found the recipe online and my mum made them this afternoon.  She said it was a super easy recipe to make and they were delicious.

The one on the left is the standard recipe and on the right is the gluten free version using Healtheries baking mix and gluten free baking powder.  This recipe is great for morning or afternoon tea with friends :)  Enjoy!

New Zealand - sign of the times.

One of my favourite New Zealand cook book writers is Sophie Gray - more commonly known as the Destitute Gourmet.  I have seen her cook live twice, and I enjoy her family/cafe style cooking.  Her approach to cooking is budget wise whilst still nutritious and tasty.  I have many favourite recipes although people always enjoy her roasted vege couscous with curried dressing, and in winter I love the Wine braised beef with herby dumplings - especially as it works just as well in the crockpot.  Sometimes she posts recipes online, like her yummy easter buns.  Her recipes are good for making meat stretch a bit further, or to tempt those meat eaters with some tasty vegetarian meals.  If you are unsure about whether to splash out on another cook book then google Sophie Gray - you will find plenty of recipes she has shared, try one out and then go purchase one of her books!

The Tourist

Wow!  What a disappointing movie.  Hired this DVD and it seemed like a tourism movie for sure!  All it did was showcase the city.  Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp were okay but this movie is only worth watching if you feel hungover on the couch on a Saturday afternoon!
